EcoBase were thrilled to hear about the Government’s next initiative within the ECO sector; the Flex Scheme. The flexibility eligibility scheme is often shortened to ‘LA Flex’. Flexibility eligibility is the extension of the Government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme which helps UK households reduce their energy bills and carbon footprint helping the environment. This is great news as more and more households can now get access to an ECO grant!
To summarise, the LA Flex scheme is a new Government initiative to help the many households who are not receiving benefits but who are living on low income and are vulnerable to fuel poverty. A recent study evidenced that throughout both Scotland and England there are more than 3.1 million homes classed as living in fuel poverty or on low incomes and vulnerable to the cold. Therefore we at EcoBase welcome the LA Flex scheme as it is clearly an effective next phase of the impressive ECO3 scheme. The scheme helps by subsidising the cost (up to 100%) of installing energy efficiency measures ranging broadly from room in roof insulation to storage heaters.
To develop the Energy Company Obligation scheme, flexible eligibility gives the local authorities the autonomy to define their very own eligibility criteria. Therefore, this now ‘widens the net’ in terms of who is eligible as the criteria now is extended beyond more than just income, benefits received or type of heating. This means thousands of households across the entire of the UK will now be eligible!
